Did You Know? California Community College Career Centers have resources to help you choose a major and a career, as well as internship and job placement information. It’s never too early, or too late to take advantage of career services. Now that you have gathered some information about yourself and some possible career direction, it is time to stop by the center and find out next steps to take to move you in the direction of your dreams. Career center staff are not clairvoyant, be prepared with questions you have about careers and specific help you need and want.

Visit Your Career Center

Here are a few ideas of what you could do when you visit your career center.
  • Be ready to share your Personal Profile from MissingMajor.Com and additional clues you have gathered about yourself in the Searching for Direction activities.

  • Inquire about Career Assessments.There are hundreds of career assessments and you have completed many of the career self-assessments in this Career Clues series. If you believe you need or want additional career or personality testing, ask you career center to advise you on where and how to get these assessments.

  • Get a list of the names and dates of career workshops, seminars, and career fairs.

  • Look at the job board to get an idea of the kinds of jobs available.

  • Ask how they can help you set up job experiences like internships, informational interviews, job shadows, mentors and alumni networks.

  • Draft your own questions: Write down two or three specific things you want to accomplish in this visit.
    • How do I do some career research?
    • What career assessments do you offer?
    • How do I make an appointment to see a career counselor to get career advice based on your Personal Profile?
    • Do you offer virtual career fairs?
    • How can I get an internship?
