Did you know? The average person will hold 8-10 different jobs in their work life, so conducting an effective job search is a life skill you will use again and again. You will need to make personal and online connections as you conduct your job search. To help you better understand the job search process, you will find the online version of College Grad Job Hunter easy to read and access with clearly defined sections. Write a Job Search Goal Card
Knowing your job target will save you an enormous amount of time and energy. One of the most effective ways to get started is to write out a job search goal card. On your goal card write the name of the job title you are looking for, a deadline date for finding the job, and how much money you expect to earn on the job. Your goal card might read something like this: By June 20th I am going to be working as a sales representative and earning $50,000 a year doing a job I love. This short video clip will show you how to get hired faster using a goal card.

Career TV offers video profiles of a number of employers including, the IRS, 3M and L’Oreal. Which of the company profiles peaks your interest? Who’s company culture do you prefer?

Online Job Search Guidance
There are hundreds if not thousands of online job search engines. You will want to do your homework before you submit personal information or resumes to one of these job search sites. Read this expose from the Career Journal for more information on how to “Master the Electronic Job Search.” You may also want to view The Riley Guide. It is a directory of employment and career information, suggestions and recommendations on how to conduct the best job search. Unlike a job search site, it is not a place to post resumes or find a specific job but it will link you to places that will help you do this. In addition, check with the staff in your campus career center to find out what job search engine they recommend.
